A pair of cups that's made to be together. Wheel-thrown porcelain, painted by hand.
Each stroke is painted in one go, with no going back once the brush touches the surface. The blue and clear glaze layers blend together once the cup is fired.
On the "A-sides," lines attributed to Sigmund Freud about what makes life worth living:
Work and love, love and work.
On the "B-sides,” two castles, each paired with the phrase it seemed to relate with more. One comes from the background of a 1646 Teniers the Younger painting, ‘A view of Het Sterckshof near Antwerp’. The other from the background of a c. 1500 painting by Giovanni Bellini, ‘The Madonna of the Meadow’.
The cups are sold as a pair. Each cup is approximately 9 cm tall and 8 cm across (11 cm including the handle). Trimmed flat foot and signed underneath.
